Our Commitment:
Sustainability. At Alaska Home Pack, and our partner Alaska Glacier Seafoods, sustaining the planet and our community are top priorities.
100% Alaskan. 100% Wild. All of our seafood is caught in Alaska waters. Alaska’s wild and abundant fisheries have long been recognized as the global gold standard in sustainable, responsible fisheries management. All seafood from Alaska is wild; fish farming is prohibited here. Alaska is the only state in the nation with sustainable fisheries mandated directly in our Constitution.
Sustaining Generations. By subscribing to your own Alaska Home Pack, you are helping sustain a community of independent fishing families, many who have made their living from the sea for generations.
Certified. We are certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).
Clean Energy. Our seafood processing facility, and indeed all power in Juneau, is supplied by clean hydropower, which is a renewable power source with a scant carbon footprint.
Clean Processing. We use a triatomic form of oxygen commonly known as ozone that is created on-site and mixed with water, resulting in a powerful disinfectant that inhibits microbiological growth via oxidation. Ozone-enriched water is an environmentally friendly solution that leaves no residuals or films and is a natural and more effective alternative to harsh chemicals. The ozone remains active in the water for only a matter of minutes before it destabilizes, leaving behind only pure water.
Zero Waste. We like to say that there is no bad part of a fish! We recover 98% of the seafood by weight that goes through our door. Products such as our ground coho salmon burger and halibut bits allow us to reach near-full utilization from every fish that we process. The remaining organic materials (with the exception of crab shells) are sold to pet food producers.
Recycling made easy. As we look to all aspects of our company to operate responsibly, even our shipping boxes play a part. Every box includes a prepaid FedEx label addressed to the nearest Styrofoam recycling facility. Once your seafood is unpacked, simply affix the prepaid shipping label on the empty styro container and drop it at the nearest FedEx location, there are over 20,000 locations available nationwide, where it will be shipped to a recycling center.
Traceability. All seafood is under our trace registry, meaning we can trace who and when your seafood is caught.
Quality. Our customers all over the world tell us, time and again, that the quality of the seafood we provide is unmatched. A tireless dedication to providing the highest quality seafood available is something we take seriously. By owning and operating our processing facility, located directly at the point where the seafood first makes landfall, we are able to ensure every fish is quickly chilled, expertly processed and frozen with care. What that means for you is the highest quality seafood you can get, from a source you can trust, delivered directly to your door.
Health Benefits of Seafood. There is an impressive body of research espousing the health benefits of eating seafood. The US Government recommends eating at least two servings of seafood per week for optimum health, but many Americans are eating far less than the recommended amount. Seafood, especially cold water fatty fish like salmon and sablefish, is the single best sources of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids and other nutrients such as vitamin D and selenium that provide a number of health benefits, including:
- Reduced chances of heart disease
- Anti-inflammatory properties
- Increased brain function
- Reduced risk of mental disease
- Decreased risk of stroke
- Proper infant brain and eye development
- May reduce the chance of developing diabetes
- Lower blood pressure, and
- Healthy vision and retinal function.
